The Valuable Moments That Make Me Treasure Crochet
The time spent with my grandma created the valuable moments that make me treasure crochet . She planted the seed of love for crochet in me. Over the years, crocheting has become a way for me to relax. As a young girl, I spent many days with Grandma, learning to enjoy the art of crochet.
The valuable moments that make me treasure crochet
My grandma was an avid crafter; sewing, needlework, painting, knitting and, of course, crocheting. When she was diagnosed with bone cancer and underwent treatments, I stayed with her on weekends. It was during this time that we connected over crochet.
It all started with chains and single crochet stitches. Then the double crochet and the Granny Square technique. I still cherish the moments I spent with her, learning the art of crochet.
Crocheting again!
Later, after my grandma passed, I put crochet aside. While in college, I spent a year on the east coast away from my family. To try to help with the homesickness, I bought a crochet book, a hook, and some yarn. Crochet became comforting and relaxing.
Fast forward– I have since taught myself many different stitches, learned to read patterns and have made countless projects for the people I love and cherish. It all started with a baby afghan for my first son. It was from there that my love for crochet grew stronger. I have made baby afghans for each of my nieces and nephews, as well as graduation afghans.
Years later I became involved in a crochet and knitting group that made prayer shawls for those who were sick or hurting. Crochet has been placed on my heart as my mission. To share the talent and creativity that God gave me with others around me. Not only people I know, but those I do not know.
Passion becomes a mission
The valuable moments that make me treasure crochet sparked a love for the art. That seed my Grandma planted grew into a passion, much like the one she had. God molded my passion into a mission to share it with others.
With each afghan, blanket, hat, booties, scarf, or shawl I create, I say a prayer over the project. The prayers are for blessings, comfort, strength, wisdom, healing, and protection for the recipient. I send each item with a prayer card and a bible verse to encourage, uplift, and bless the one who receives the gift.
