The Crossed Double Crochet Stitch (also known as the criss-cross stitch) is a product of a making a small modification to the double crochet. It is a fun stitch to use as a one row repeat or to alternate rows with another stitch. It adds texture and design to any project and it is easy enough for even a beginner to do.

Crossed Double Crochet Stitch (cdc)

Skip 1 stitch or chain. Double Crochet in the next stitch. Working behind the double crochet just made, double crochet in the skipped stitch.

To make a swatch

FOUNDATION CHAIN

Chain any even number of chains

ROW 1

Double crochet in the 4th chain from hook. Working behind the double crochet just made, dc in the skipped stitch. *Skip next chain, dc in next chain. Working behind the dc just made, dc in the skipped chain.* Repeat across making 1 dc in the last stitch of the row. Turn.

ROW 2

Chain 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout) *skip one stitch, dc in the next stitch. Working behind the stitch just made, dc in the skipped stitch.* Repeat from * to * across to last stitch. DC in the last stitch. Turn.

Repeat row 2 until desired length.
