Easy Sugarplum Princess Baby Afghan

I am so excited about my newest project, the Easy Sugarplum Princess Baby Afghan. It features a dense fabric, as well as a light texture, giving this little blanket a beautiful look. It looks complicated, but really it is not complicated at all. Since the entire blanket is made from the suzette stitch, this pattern is very beginner friendly and works up quickly.

A New Stitch: the Suzette Stitch

I love learning a new stitch. But I love using that new stitch in a project for the first time. It can be a bit overwhelming to attempt a new project with a new stitch, but making a sample of what you want your project to be is always a great help. I recently learned the suzette stitch and immediately fell in love with the feel and texture of the stitch.

The suzette stitch gives a warm and cozy feel to the blanket, as well as the fact that the entire blanket is worked holding two strands of yarn. However, if you use a heavier weight yarn, two strands would not be necessary to create the thicker fabric. Since I used a sport weight yarn, I chose to double the strands to get the thicker feel.

Don’t forget to check out the Suzette Stitch in my stitch library. As one of my favorite stitches, I think it should be in everyone’s stitch repertoire. It is a great stitch for scarves, shawls and even blankets, and works great with many kinds of yarn.

THE COLORS FOR THE SUGARPLUM PRINCESS BABY AFGHAN

Don’t you think these colors are perfect for a new sweet little princess. In fact, the colors lead me to the name. The yarn is Baby Bee Sweet Delight in the colors Plum Pudding, and Ballet Slipper. When I said the two colors together, all I wanted to say Sugarplum Princess, which is a character from a ballet. So it seemed so fitting to give this darling little blanket the name easy Sugarplum Princess Baby Afghan.
