The Block Stitch

SKILL LEVEL Easy/Beginner

MULTIPLES Multiples of 3 + 1

PROJECT IDEAS Shawl, scarf, blanket

The Block Stitch is a great beginner level stitch that uses the basic stitches of the single crochet, double crochet, and chain. The double crochet stitches are group into groups of three stitches and sit between single crochets of the previous row. This makes a great two color pattern. The colors can compliment each other to create great contrast in the finished project. Or using shades of the same color will create a more subtle look that still remains appealing to the eye.

Not only is this stitch great for a larger project like a blanket, but it also works great for borders. This technique creates a unique feature to the finished project. No matter how you use the block stitch, it will be a crowd pleaser for sure.

Because the block stitch lends itself to many different styles of patterns, the possibilities are endless. Although, I have linked some different patterns here that use this stitch, I encourage you to try creating your own project. So, here is your chance to start with trying something small like a hat or scarf.
