The Yarn and Its Challenges

I must admit, even though the v-stitch used in this pattern is beginner friendly, the yarn? Not so much. If you are a beginner, I would recommend trying the pattern with a basic acrylic or cotton yarn first. What I found with the pipsqueak yarn was that I had to feel for the stitches. You can not rely on seeing where to insert your hook. But if you are a more advanced or adventurous crochet artist, by all means, dive in and try it.

THE V-STITCH In the Cozy and warm PipSqueak Baby Afghan

The v-stitch is just (dc, ch 1, dc) in the same stitch or space, making it a beginner friendly stitch. Once I got going on the pattern, it was pretty easy to feel the ch-1 space of the previous row. After the first row, the v-stitch is worked into the ch-1 space of the v-stitch of the row below. The biggest challenge was row 1 and getting the initial v-stitch in the correct chain of the foundation chain.

Well, now that I have explained the challenges of working with the yarn, let’s move on to the pattern. A larger hook is must when working with the fuzzy pipsqueak yarn or a bulkier yarn of any kind. I used a hook size of J/K. This made the stitches loose enough to feel them easily.
