Moss or Linen Stitch

SKILL LEVEL Very Easy/ Beginner Advanced Beginner

MULTIPLES Multiples of 2 or any even number

PROJECT IDEAS Blanket, hat, scarf, garment, dish clothe

The Moss or Linen Stitch is a simple beginner friendly stitch to make. It is a simple repeat of the single crochet and a chain 1. The pattern creates a alternating look by then crocheting the single crochet into the chain 1 space of the previous row. This stitch is so versatile, it can be used for anything, a hat, blanket, potholder, or mug rugs, just to name a few. Even though you are creating little boxes by skipping stitches, it is still a fairly dense fabric. It, of course, is not as dense as just single crochets, but it still creates a beautiful texture. Adding rows of different colors gives this stitch yet another eye catching look that enhances the beauty of this simple stitch.

Although, I have linked some different patterns here that use this stitch, I encourage you to try creating your own project. So, here is your chance to start with trying something small like a hat or scarf.
