Simple Sunshine and Small Clouds Crochet Baby Blankets
Here are a couple of my stash buster projects. The yarn is Bernat Coordinates in Lemon and a pale blue (I really don’t know the color name as I no longer had a label). These are now retired colors, but I had several of these 6 oz skeins to use up. I searched for an easy pattern that would not take much time or yarn. I finally came across one here that would be perfect. Upon finishing these easy blankets, I couldn’t help but call them Sunshine and Small Clouds Crochet Baby Blankets.
THE STITCH, THE TINY CLOUD STITCH
The stitch used for these blankets is a very simple stitch pattern using a combination of 1 sc and 2 half double crochet stitches. However, it was perfect for what I needed. The pattern was not only simple, but it was not a yarn eater either. Best part was, I loved how the stitch crocheted up into such a beautiful but simple texture.
The combination of the single crochet and the 2 half double crochets creates a stitch known as the Tiny Cloud Stitch. I have since used the tiny cloud stitch in a few other projects. This stitch will be a long time favorite of mine. I can’t wait to try it in combination with other stitches to create unique textures and variations.

Well then, back to my two stash busters blankets. Of course, the yellow one I am calling Sunshine Baby Blanket. It is pretty obvious as to why. The bright yellow is a very happy color, but crocheted up so lovely in this pattern. The texture of the yarn added to the texture of the stitch, thus creating lots of beautiful texture.
The blue blanket I am calling Small Clouds Baby blanket. The bumpy texture of the Tiny Cloud stitch looks like little clouds. Again the texture of the yarn only added to the beautiful texture of the stitch. Finally, the blue color just added one more beautiful touch to the perception of small clouds.
The Finishing touches
To put a finished touch to each of the blankets, I added a simple, but textured, border. The border consists of a round of double crochets, followed by a round of 2 single crochets and 2 chains. The combination of the single crochets and 2 chains gives a bumpy texture to the edge of the blanket. All the texture in the yarn, the stitch, and the border gives these little blankets a beautiful, but simple finish.
Adding One More Touch TO the Project
I loved this stitch so much, that I decided to add to the blankets and make a couple little hats. I had just enough of the yarn in each of the colors to make the hats. These sweet swaddling sets will make the perfect set to bring any new bundle of joy home in.
