Denim And Lace Surprisingly easy baby afghan and hat

I named this cute little crochet baby afghan and hat set “Denim and Lace Surprisingly easy baby afghan and hat. The Marled Denim yarn used for the body of the blanket gave a denim appearance, while the grey shell border resembled lace.

When I create a throw or baby afghan, I inevitability purchase more yarn than I need. The left over yarn then sits around. Sometimes it is for a short time. Other times, it could be laying around for months. It just waits for me to have a brainstorm on what to make with it. “Denim and Lace” Baby Afghan and Hat set was made from just that, left overs from another project.

After finishing a large heavy blanket for my nephew a few years ago was no different. I had used Marled Denim and Silver Mist I Love This Yarn by Hobby Lobby. I loved how the Marled Denim had worked up for his blanket, but I was not wanting to create such a large blanket again. That and I did not have enough yarn to do so.

Inspiration Strikes!

My thoughts went to a baby afghan. I decided to do a very simple stitch. When I made my nephews blanket, I had doubled the strands of yarn. This made it very heavy. Using a single strand of yarn this time, I began with just a simple Half Double Crochet. The simple stitch with this yarn gave a light but warm feeling.

To finish the blanket off, I decided it needed a small, but sophisticated border. Again, I bordered it with the Silver Mist. But instead of single crockets, I used a shell stitch border. This added a sense of flare to the denim look, like Denim and Lace.

The Marled Denim and Silver Mist yarns did not disappoint. They worked up beautifully into a deep blue denim body with a silvery lacy border. Perfect for a new little boy or girl! In addition, I crocheted up an adorable little hat with just the little bit of left over yarn to make a set. The hat was made out of the same HDC stitch as the blanket. I finished it off with a Silver Mist pompom on the top.
