Obsessed with denim unbelievably easy Crochet throw

It’s simplistic, it’s warm, and, of course, it looks just like denim! The pattern is as simple as it looks. It is created using a simple single crochet decrease stitch and chain 1 sequence, therefore it’s very dense and warm. So it is very beginner friendly. Working with two strands of yarn throughout the pattern not only adds to the warmth but also to the texture of this throw. Are you in need of a weighted blanket? This one will do the trick. Not only that, but it makes up quickly too. This Obsessed With Denim unbelievably easy Crochet throw is simple enough even for the newest beginner to make.

NEEDING A SIMPLISTIC GIFT

A couple of years ago, I made a large afghan for my nephew’s graduation. I chose to use Marled Denim and Silver Mist by I Love This Yarn. Silver Mist accented the afghan as a border. However, my nephew is a very simplistic and minimalistic person. Therefore, his afghan had to say that as well. Simple and minimal.

I am totally obsessed with the Marled Denim yarn. The Marled Denim yarn in this blanket not only makes it appealing to the eye, but also helps to emphasize it’s texture. I am so in love with the way this yarn crocheted up!

UNBELIEVABLY EASY OBSESSED WITH DENIM CROCHET Throw

I created this afghan holding two 2 strands of yarn together throughout the entire blanket. Consequently, it was like using a bulky yarn. Then, using a very simple stitch, I was able to created the simplistic look I wanted. A single crochet decrease and chain one stitch sequence made the perfect stitch combination. Furthermore, it made sense for a simplistic person. Likewise, and keeping with the theme of simple, I chose to border it with a simple single crochet around the edges using silver mist. In addition, it complemented it well. The double strand and simple stitch, which was also dense, made for a heavy, weighted blanket. Needless to say, the blanket was still a hit!

HOOK SIZE MATTERS

Because I was using double strands of a worsted weight yarn, I needed to use a little larger hook. I choose to use a size hook J/10. Even though it is a larger hook, the stitches were still small enough that it created a dense fabric. I would not recommend using any smaller hook. Depending on what look you are going for, an even larger hook might be better. The larger hooks will make a looser fabric and create a slightly different look. This, of course, it completely up to what you are wanting. Just remember that if you use a larger hook, to cut back on the number of chains in the foundation chain.

UNBELIEVABLY EASY and Quick CROCHET Pattern

I started with a foundation chain of an even number plus one for the turning chain. I, of course, was wanting it to be big, so I started with a foundation chain of 120 chains plus 2 for the turning chain. Then, I worked in the third chain from the hook and started the single crochet decrease stitch followed by a chain 1.

I completed the blanket by simply repeating row 2 of the pattern. Not being too worried about the number of rows, I simply repeated row 2 until I had it the length that I desired. Now I was ready to add a contrasting border. To add the contrast I was looking for, I used the silver mist and crocheted a simple single crochet stitch around the afghan. Then I added a round of chain 2 and slip stitches to give the border a little bit of texture as well.

MATERIALS:

  • 10-12 Skeins of Marled Denim 6 oz each
  • 1-2 skeins of Silver Mist 6 oz each
  • Hook size J or larger
  • scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Finished size:

NOTES:

  • The entire pattern, both body and the border are worked while holding two strands of the same color.
  • You can adjust the size of the pattern by either increasing or decreasing the number of chains in the foundation chain. The Foundation chain needs to be an even number.
  • If you choose to use a larger hook, be sure to decrease the number of the foundation chain to accommodate for the larger stitches.
  • I do not recommend a hook smaller than a J if working with 2 strands of a 4 weight worsted yarn. Hook size J/10 will make a very dense fabric.

FInished OBSESSED WITH DENIM Throw

Once finished with this throw, I was amazed at how heavy it became. The Obsessed With Denim is an unbelievably easy Crochet Throw really felt like a weighted blanket. However, it was warm, inviting, and cozy to wrap around oneself. The Marled Denim and Silver Mist yarns really worked well together and complimented each other well. I will definitely make this pattern again sometime. It has become one of my favorites, but I am also open to adjusting the size a bit.

As a super easy pattern, even the newest of crafters can make it. Holding two strands together not only gave this blanket a chunky weight, but a really unique texture. I hope you enjoy making this pattern as much as I did. I would love to see any projects that you make from this pattern. Thanks for stopping by DulceBella Designs!
