The Uneven Moss/Crunch Stitch

SKILL LEVEL Very Easy/Beginner

MULTIPLES Multiples of 2+ 1

PROJECT IDEAS Blanket, hat, scarf, pot holder, tea towel

The Uneven Moss or Crunch stitch is a gorgeous beginner stitch that adds lots of bumpy texture and creates a dense fabric. It works great for any project that needs to look good from both sides as it is a 2 sided stitch. It is also a simple 2 row repeat, making it easy to get the hang of. The uneven moss/crunch stitch is a simple repeat of a slip stitch and a half double crochet stitch, which are both basic stitches that every beginner should know. So if you know those two stitches, the crunch stitch will be easy.

Because it is a simple 2 row repeat, it is an easy one to do while watching tv. The rhythm helps keep the stitches going and so there is no need for continual counting of the stitches. This also lends itself to easy and beautiful color changes and stripes.

THE UNEVEN MOSS/CRUNCH STITCH NOTES

  • Always sl st into a hdc from previous row, and always hdc into sl st from previous row.
  • Always end with a sl st.
  • The crunch stitch is similar to the even moss stitch. With the even moss stitch, the sl st is placed in the sl st of the previous row, and the hdc is placed into the hdc of the previous row.

MY FAVORITE PATTERNS USING THE UNEVEN MOSS/CRUNCH STITCH

The Beautiful uneven moss/crunch Stitch creates an amazing eye appealing look for the newest of crafters. Because it simple to learn, it is a perfect option for a beginner to learn. Although, I have linked some different patterns here that use this stitch, I encourage you to try creating your own project. So, here is your chance to start with trying something small like a dish clothe or pot holder.
