Easy Delightful Springtime Stripe

Hello friends, I have a great little modern baby blanket to share with you today. The Easy Delightful Springtime Stripe baby blanket is simply textured and reversible. Not only that, but it would look great with any color combination. The pattern would work great for either a boy or a girl, depending on the colors used. It is simple enough for even the most beginner of crocheters.

The Stitches: Single Crochet and Double Crochet

The combination of the basic single crochet, double crochet, and chain stitch, along with the random stripe pattern, make this blanket a superbly unique and modern looking baby blanket. The stitch pattern is a two-row repeat, meaning that you simply repeat two rows over again until you have reached your desired length.

In the first row, you will be crocheting a single crochet, skipping a stitch, and chaining one. This is repeated across the row, ending with a single crochet in the last stitch. The second row you repeat a single crochet in the single crochet of the previous row, and double crochet over the chain one space and into the stitch in the row below. By crocheting a longer dc over the chain one space, you create a slight texture in the fabric. It also helps to create a denser fabric.

Not a Yarn Eater

This easy blanket not only uses basic stitches, but it uses less than 18 oz of yarn, Definately not a yarn eater at all. Use any color combination you would like and create a unique look for that special little bundle of joy.

The Stripes

When I first started this project, I wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted the stripes to look. I really didn’t want it to be a sysmetrical design either. You know, where you use color A for so many rows, then color B, then color C. Finally, you just repeat the color pattern. So that left me with trying to figure out a color pattern that would still look good. Because of the 2 row repeat of the stitch pattern, I need to use even number of rows.

After searching around to find different stripe patterns, I finally came across a random stripe generator. While playing with it a bit, I eventualy came up with a stripe pattern that I liked. Simply plug in the colors you are using, the number of rows for the finished product, and any row multiples that you want, and wala, it generates the pattern for you. I will definately be using this again in the future. You can find the random stripe generator that here.

A Stash Buster

What makes this pattern even better is it was a stash buster project for me. It does not use a tone of yarn, so if you have just a small amount yarn you would like to use up, this is the way to do it. I had about 9 oz of the lime green, lilac and white TLC yarn by Red Heart. Even though these colors are discontinued, the pattern I still did not use all that I had left either.
