Pearly Gray prayer Shawl of Peace
I am so excited to share this shawl pattern with you today! Consequently, it was quite by accident that it came about. I certainly love these kinds of projects and I think they often times end up the best ones. Of course, this time it proofed to be true. The shawl turned out beautifully and I can’t wait to gift it to someone. The Pearly Gray Prayer Shawl of Peace is sure to please and comfort one in need.
THE YARN
I found some Red Heart Unforgettable yarn in Pearly while browsing the yarn aisle one day. Shades of purple and gray are some of my favorite color combinations. So when I spied this yarn, I was immediately drawn to the colors.
Since the weight of the yarn is light, I knew one day it would be perfect for a shawl or scarf. But coming up with a lacy fabric or stitch that would show off the gorgeous colors took me some time. I wanted it to be the perfect pattern.
A NEW STiTCH TO TRY
Weeks down the road, I was scrolling through Pinterest (I LOVE Pinterest!), and came across a new stitch I had not seen before. The forked cluster stitch. I was determined to try it, learn it, and use it in a project in the near future. Amazingly enough, it was not as difficult for me to get the hang of the stitch as I had thought it might be. As a result, I fell in love with the way it worked up. The rhythmic pattern of the stitch makes it calming and soothing to do. The forked cluster stitch is a great intermediate stitch that would work great for shawls, blanket, or scarves.
THe Creation of the PEarly Gray Prayer Shawl
After making the stitch sample, I knew that this stitch would be perfect for my purchase of the Pearly yarn I bought a few weeks earlier. The lighter weight yarn would be great for this stitch and still keep it a lighter weight fabric. Hence, The Pearly Gray Prayer Shawl of Peace was created.
The stitch and yarn combination did not disappoint! I love how the subtle colors worked up in the stitch. It won’t be long and I will be trying other combinations with this stitch, because it has become my new favorite stitch!

PATTERN NOTES:
- Each forked cluster stitch has two legs to it. The first leg in worked in one stitch, then skip 1 ch or stitch, and work the 2nd leg in the next ch/stitch.
- For the second row, to begin the next forked cluster, the first leg will be worked in the same space as the second leg of the last forked cluster. Then chain 2 and begin the second leg in the next ch-2 space.
- The first row is a little more tricky to do, but then with row 2 and on it is easier and more rhythmic to do.
